The Columbia River Gorge is 80 miles of gorgeous scenery along the Columbia River 20-30 miles west of Portland. On the Oregon side take the Historic Columbia River Hwy at Troutdale, exit 18 on I-84. Head South, following signs for Multnomah falls. The drive takes you through the countryside to a view point, with the gorge in the background and the Vista House in the foreground. We drove along the hwy to the Vista Point and past to Multnomah falls. There’s several falls along the way and you can spend some time hiking. There’s a moderate hiking trail that leads you to the head of Multnomah falls. Time permitted this is an interesting hike. The whole area can be covered in a day including taking some of the hikes. You can also camp for the night in Crown Point State Park and several other spots along the way.
